FAQs
Welcome to the Resin Wood Guitars FAQ section, where we address some of the frequently asked questions
about our instruments. If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out through our
contact page.
Are British woods a good choice for building guitars?
Yes. Woods native to the UK/Great Britain provide an excellent alternative to traditional tonewoods;
they have similar looks, feel, density, and weight. Plus, using resources closer to home reduces
the carbon footprint of our guitars. Why use British handwound pickups?
We believe in supporting UK small businesses, who’s products are on a par with handwound pickups
from around the world. We use pickups by:
Legendary Pickups, House Of Tone Pickups, Catswhisker Pickups, Gemini Pickups, Fletcher Pickups, Northern Pickups, and Alchemy Pickups. Is the Free-Way toggle a UK product?
Yes. The Free-Way switch is manufactured by NSF Controls, only a few miles from where Resin Wood Guitars
is located in the UK. Which strings are used on your instruments?
All our instruments use `Made in England` Rotosound strings. Standard model versions use Roto nickel
strings, whilst premium versions come with Ultramag type 52 alloy strings. Please note the exception
of the Brackish 7 model that uses only Roto nickel strings. All guitars come with 10-46 (+56 for
7 string) and basses 45-105 (+130 for 5 string) gauge strings. Is the hardware used from British manufacturers?
Unfortunately, no. We were unable to find any hardware manufacturers in the UK. Most of the hardware
is made by Gotoh in Japan. We also use products made by Hosco, Graphtech, Bourns and PureTone amongst
others. What is the lead time on instrument purchases?
We aim to build guitars within 12 weeks when parts are in stock. However, there can be up to a 6
month lead time on some hardware products that may affect your order. You can always contact us for
a stock check on your instrument build to estimate your lead time before purchase. How do the premium and standard version of each model differ?
The standard versions are traditional in their feature set; a single piece neck with non-locking
tuners and nickel-silver fretwire, standard straplocks, and standard pots. Premium versions on the
other hand have contemporary features such as; carbon fiber rods,
stainless steel fretwire and locking tuners, straplocks, and no-load tone pots. What are the two pickup options for each model?
The traditional option gives a familiar style tone that players might be used to, although they are
usually 'tweaked' in some way such as magnet choice, wire gauge or construction. In contrast, the
modern option offers a unique tonal palette not concerned with preserving the classic sound associated
with the pickup type used. The pickup options for our guitar models are different versions of the
same pickup type. The pickup options for our bass models are different pickup types. Both standard
and premium instrument versions have the option to use traditional or modern pickups. Do you offer left handed models?
Yes! All models are available left handed with mostly the same hardware choices - the only omission
is no tremolo option for Brackish 7 model. Note that the no-load tone pot on premium model versions
has the no-load at the bottom of the pot travel rather than the top. We do not add on a left-handed
surcharge, only adding the hardware cost difference for the tremolo option from the manufacturer. Are the resin patterns identical between instruments?
No. Resin Wood Guitars use resin designs specific to each model, however due to the hand poured application
each instrument will be beautifully individual. Do you ship outside of the UK?
Yes, we ship internationally. On checkout you can enter a delivery address anywhere in the world
to see the shipping option available. Please note that any import duties, taxes etc. from the destination
country are the buyer's responsibility. Do you support reforestation in Britain?
Yes, we do. For every instrument purchased we will donate to have a tree planted in Britain at the
end of our business year. We do this because we believe in replacing the trees used to help make
our instruments and to look after the planet for future generations to enjoy (and build guitars!). How do I adjust my trussrod?
The trussrod in our instruments are installed so that the spoke adjustment is orientated to the top
and is more easily accessible. To adjust a neck that is bending forward, turn the spoke counter-clockwise,
if there is not enough relied in the neck then turn the spoke clockwise. This is counter to how most
trussrods are adjusted. What tool should I use to adjust pickup height?
We mount pickups using a wood insert with a M2.5 bolt. Technically they use a 1.5mm hex tool. However
we have found that these aren't that reliable and a better and reliable tool is using a T6 torx screwdriver.
